Ragbrai is an annual bicycle ride across Iowa that takes place over seven days in late July. Cyclists cover over 400 miles of scenic back roads while camping in small towns along the way. The event attracts riders from all over the world and is an excellent way to see the beauty of Iowa and meet new people. This was undoubtedly our highlight from traveling all 50 states. A great sporting challenge, great fun, and a great time. Do not miss this, and plan your trip around this!
2. Universal Studios or Disney Land in Florida:
Universal Studios and Disney Land are two of the most popular theme parks in Florida, attracting millions of visitors each year. Universal Studios offers a variety of rides and attractions based on popular movies and TV shows, while Disney Land is known for its iconic characters and family-friendly attractions. Both parks offer something for everyone, making them a must-visit destination for families and theme park enthusiasts. Money Tip: Live in your van, and buy an annual pass. Accommodation at the park is the expensive thing, and if you buy an annual pass, you can visit the park for 2 weeks and depreciate the cost over 2 weeks. It was an epic experience.
3. Walking across Rhode Island:
Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the country, but it has a lot to offer. Walking across the state is a unique experience that can be completed in just a day! The walk from Conneticut to Massachusetts takes visitors through historic towns, along the coast, and through beautiful parks and forests. While it isn’t the most exciting thing to do, it was certainly fun!
4. Visiting a Walmart & Home Depot:
While visiting a Walmart and Home Depot may not seem like a typical bucket list item, these stores are uniquely American and worth experiencing. Walmart is the largest retailer in the world and offers everything from groceries to electronics, while Home Depot is a home improvement store with everything you need for your next DIY project. The experience is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before!
5. Going to a Chinatown:
America is known for its immigrant. As such, Chinatowns are unique neighborhoods in major cities, offering a glimpse into Chinese culture and history. San Francisco and New York City both have thriving Chinatowns, with a variety of restaurants, shops, and cultural events. Take a glimpse into the past, and history whenever you try a Chinatown in America. Talk to the folks there, get a good authentic asian meal, and have a great time. (We swear, we have had more authentic asian meals in America than in Singapore)
6. Going to see the Redwood trees and Oregon Coast:
The Redwood National and State Parks in California and Oregon are home to some of the tallest trees in the world. These giant trees are awe-inspiring and worth a visit, whether you are a nature enthusiast or not. The parks offer hiking trails, scenic drives, and camping opportunities, making them a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Oregon Coast is one of the most beautiful and spectacular drives in the USA.
7. Visit NOLA:
New Orleans, Louisiana, is a unique city with a vibrant culture and history. NOLA is known for its delicious food, live music, and lively nightlife. Visitors can take a tour of the French Quarter, visit historic sites, and enjoy the city's famous beignets and gumbo. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest hot air balloon festival in the world. It takes place over nine days in October and features hundreds of hot air balloons from around the world.
