Flying in and Out of Singapore with a Bicycle

Hello fellow bicycle adventurers! As Singaporeans who have lived on this sunny island for the most part of our lives and are currently circumnavigating the world via bike, we can assure you that Singapore has not only one of the best cycling paths in Asia but is also very friendly to the bicycle tourist as directions are clear and everyone speaks English so there will hardly be a need for google translate.

As fellow cyclists, we know how difficult it can be flying with a bicycle and having to assemble it in a foreign land - so hopefully with this post we can make your bicycle touring experience a much easier one!

Transport From Changi Airport into the City:

There are 4 main terminals in the airport connected by monorail or bus (not counting Jewel Changi Airport) as of July 2023. So no matter which terminal you are at, you will definitely be able to get around with ease.

So after collecting your bicycle at the baggage counter, here are some of our reccomendations on how to get into the city.

The first option is via bike! (our much preferred method)

The cycle into the city is a very scenic and flat ride! It would be about 20-30km, depending on where you go, and we would highly recommend you do it!

If you are flying with your bicycle, make your way to Terminal 2 where there are a huge range of amenities for cyclists just next to the cafe called Hub and Spoke. That includes a much appreciated bicycle stand where you can set up your bicycle :)

Showers facilities and bike lockers* are also available for a small fee and there are also a range of bicycle tools that can be used at no cost at all.

*if you are planning to visit Singapore only for a few days, it might be well worth it to rent a bicycle locker for a few days. Most bicycles will be able to fit the whole bike box and you can enjoy Singapore bike free :)

After assembling your bicycle, get on the Jurassic Mile to see some dinosaurs. Follow the pathway until you hit East Coast Park. The signs along the way will make it very easy for the bicycle tourist to follow.

Follow directions for Marina Bay!

Take a leisurely cycle in East Coast Park if you fancy or you can follow the coastal connector to the city centre Marina Barrage where you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of our Garden city. The cycling path is super beautiful, very flat, and very rewarding. Definitely an option I would choose if i arrived during the day!

The second option is to take a private vehicle.

While Singapore has a great public transport system. is really affordable and convenient. There are buses and trains depending on where you are going. You are not allowed to take your bike into the public transport system in Singapore. Only foldables under a certain size are allowed on our train and bus network.

Therefore, you would need to charter a private vehicle. If your bike can fit into a normal sedan, follow the signs to a taxi stand. Prices should be around $30 depending on where you are going and the time of arrival (we have peak hour surcharge and late night surcharges). If it doesn’t fit into a sedan, you probably need to get a mini-van. Look for signs or ask around for a “Maxicab”. Refer to the link and images below!

Depending on a terminal, they will have a individual booth (refer to picture above). Prices run from $50-100 for a full minibus all to yourself. Personally, given the minimal price difference, we would recommend you take the maxicab if you are not cycling into the city.

Transport From the City to Changi Airport:

There are bicycle transport services available on our tiny island in Singapore. They are 2 main ways, both of which are affordable, and convenient!

  1. Maxicab.

This is the option we would recommend to our viewers. Hassle free, and working with a large company with a large fleet. Book their services online, or call them in advance! Prices are $40-$100 depending on the size of the cab, and the time of the day

  2. Carousell

Carousell is our local facebook marketplace. Very few people in our country use Facebook Marketplace. On Carousell, there are people offering bicycle transport services. We have never used it before! But there are a large amount of good reviews online! Prices will definitely be cheaper, but once again, you are working with a private party.

Getting a bike box in Singapore

Unfortunately, there is no magic formula for getting a bike box in Singapore. Like every other country, you probably would have to call around and try to pick up a bike box. There are many bike shops in Singapore, so it shouldn’t be too hard!

We hope you have a great time in Singapore! :)
